About
Hi. I’m Eileen. You can also call me 雅琳, like my parents do.
Many would describe me as the happiest person they know. They are absolutely right.
I guess when your every waking hour is filled with joy, it’s not hard to be content and hopeful.
:)
In 1999, I started my first job at an American news network called CNN. The next decade was a whirlwind, as breaking news took me all over the world, and excitement — and exhaustion — dominated my everyday existence.
I went into journalism to be the voice for the voiceless. Little did I expect that I would become mute myself.
A sense of helplessness led me to create an earthquake in my life — quit my job, quit a relationship, quit being so self-obsessed, quit being so self-critical….
In one fell swoop, I was shattered.
Then, the magic began.
I was a repair shop, trying to rescue a precious, tired piece that was about to give up. There was no blueprint to follow, leaving me the freedom to build Eileen 2.0 into someone that I aspired to become.
I kept only the parts of me that I loved and never wanted to lose, and designed everything else from the ground up.
The world around me raised its helping hand. I started to notice people who sparkled like the Northern Star, and with their kindness and encouragement, I tried to imitate the qualities in them that I’d like for myself.
It was like playing a never-ending puzzle that would self-correct. Every new fitted piece revealed a fuller picture of what was to come, and yet there was always room for modification and growth.
Today, I’m a writer, photographer and content creator for UK small businesses and makers, connecting them with English and Chinese-speaking audiences around the world.
I live in London and make frequent visits to the countryside. Stunning scenery aside, I want to learn more about the Real Britain — the regional way of life, food, and the folktales!
Most importantly, I now get to spend a lot more time with my family and friends, who are hands down the most beautiful and cuddle-worth bunch in my eyes.
